Feeling Decemberists in July, but with no July, July.

Last night, I was lucky enough to venture to the Hollywood bowl to see the Decemberists play with the LA Phil. A band I like, backed with a full orchestra, a venue I love, and picnic time on a breezy summer evening for 20$ (and an overpriced ticketmaster charge)-- how can one say no to that?!
Band of Horses and Andrew Bird opened; the first performance did not maintain my attention for very long, but Andrew Bird was a great new find for me (I had not heard of him until last night, although Kenny and Jaymee had). I especially like that he played in striped socks with no shoes. If they had been solid, it just would not have worked.
The Decemberists have one epic song after another, and fully orchestrated, this aspect of their melodies is in full effect. When the set ended, it felt like we had only just begun. And while I am happy they did not forget to play "Los Angeles, I'm yours", we never heard "The Mariner's Revenge Song" or even "July, July". It is July, after all.
